IMI Gliding, Towing Bar - Heavy
This Tow bar allows you to tow the glider with a car equipped with
the ISO-50 ball towing connection. (The term `heavy gliders` means gliders with
water ballast with MTOW over 525kg, two-seaters, open class, gliders with turbo
or self-launcher engine)
It can be fitted with a tail lifting adapter as in the pictures
This system for heavy gliders does not carry the tail
of the glider in the air, it only pulls/pushes and steers, the glider rides on
the tail dolly. The towing bar connects to the tail dolly with a robust steel
tube hinge with closing lock. To mount/dismount the towing bar it simply has to
be revolved up to the angle of 45° and pulled out from the tail dolly hinge.
The towing
bar is telescopic and can be shortened for transport very
quickly and easily. Simply push the lock button and push together. The towing
bar is mainly made of anodised aluminium, the highly stressed parts are made of
zinc-galvanised steel. The tail dolly has to be modified before use - simply
install the connecting adaptor with hinge tube between the tail dolly body and
castor wheel. This part is, of course, shipped with the bar and is included in
the price. The dimensions meet the standardised dimensions of the wheel mounts,
so the prepared holes fit for all factory delivered tail dollies automatically.
The version shown in the pictures is fitted
with a tail-lifting adapter. (The towing bar can be supplied without at a
reduced price)
